Google Japan Headquarters
Experiential Design
2018

As Google Japan relocated its headquarters to the vibrant Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, we embraced the challenge of creating a user journey that reflects the city’s energy and embodies the spirit of omotenashi—Japan’s renowned hospitality. Our mission was to welcome visitors, employees, tourists, and VIPs into a space that feels both distinctly Google and deeply rooted in Japan’s culture of detail and care.

The design process began with in-depth interviews, extensive research, and immersive, in-person exploration of Shibuya’s dynamic environment. We tested a variety of materials and experimented with cutting-edge projection technologies and LED screens to shape an experience that honors Google’s present identity while envisioning the future. Each element underwent numerous iterations and presentations to stakeholders to refine and perfect the vision.

From the bustling streets to the arrival in the lobby, every interaction merges innovative technology with authentic Japanese design principles. The result is an immersive, live experience that invites everyone—from daily commuters to special guests—to feel the welcoming embrace of the Google brand.
